Springbank
Springbank is one of Scotland’s most iconic and traditional distilleries, located in the historic whisky town of Campbeltown. Established in 1828 by the Mitchell family, the distillery remains family-owned and fiercely independent to this day, making it one of the few distilleries in Scotland still operating under its original ownership. Springbank is revered for its commitment to time-honored methods, producing whisky entirely on-site—from malting to bottling—making it the most self-sufficient distillery in Scotland.
Unlike many modern operations, Springbank insists on full control over every stage of production. It is one of the few distilleries that still performs traditional floor malting, turning the barley by hand. The distillery also uses its own water source, peats its own malt, and manages fermentation, distillation, maturation, and bottling entirely in-house. This labor-intensive process ensures consistency and allows for a deep connection to its craft and heritage.
Springbank produces three distinct styles of whisky under one roof: the lightly peated **Hazelburn**, the medium-peated **Springbank**, and the heavily peated **Longrow**. Each expression is crafted using unique distillation techniques—Springbank itself is distilled 2.5 times, a rare and complex method that contributes to its signature oily, salty, and rich profile. The whiskies are aged primarily in ex-bourbon and sherry casks, yielding complex flavors layered with coastal character and natural depth.
Highly respected among connoisseurs, Springbank has become a cult favorite in the whisky world for its uncompromising philosophy and integrity. With limited releases and an unwavering commitment to tradition, it continues to set a benchmark for quality, heritage, and authenticity in Scotch whisky.
