This is one of the first rye's I have tried. For a "low cost" whiskey I think it's good. I don't buy $80-$100 whiskies to impress myself or anyone else. There are lower cost versions on the market if you spend a little time looking that can provide all the flavor you want.
This is a 90 proof pour and it's a good pour. On the nose you get sweetness, herbs, vanilla and some fruit. If you like drinking jet fuel proofs this isn't the rye you want. If you want a well mannered, honest everyday sip then consider this bottle.
On the tongue you get sweetness and herbs changing to some rye spice and pepper. Then you get the oak finish and a tingle as you swallow. I've been drinking this neat and have no plans to change. Are there whiskies better than this? I'm sure there are. For the money this one will be a part of my stock to keep on hand.
I enjoy a nice rye or bourbon just to take the edge off the day and relax. As I've gotten older I've realized that if I respect alcohol and don't abuse it, it can be a enjoyable part of your day.
Try this and see what you think? For the cost and proof it can work in cocktails if you don't like it neat or over a block of ice.
